Another very comprehensive victory today for the defending League Champions, and although Lytham battled well for the first half, ultimately Shore's superior ability, strength and fitness was far too much for the visitor's to cope with.
Injuries and absences meant yet another altered starting line up, and for a while Shore struggled to impose themselves on Lytham, the match getting bogged down in central midfield where the Shore Matty's, Chadwick and Mcgreehin gradually took control. Strangely there were only 10 men on the pitch when Shore opened the scoring, Stevie Higgins was receiving treatment for a bloody nose when Jack Williams forced his way through the Lytham defence to score his 50th goal of the season. A superb total, with several games remaining, can he surpass last season's total of 64 goals? Shore doubled their lead soon after, again with only 10 men on the pitch, this time Mark Drinnan was receiving treatment for a blow to the head, Higgins opened his account with a fine header.
The second half was more one sided, Lytham continued to battle but were worn down by the constant Shore attacks, and midway through the half the goals started to flow. Chadwick scored the third, again from a header, Jac Birch scored with a header, and Higgins got his second with the best header of the match! Birch scored again to make it 6, and Ryan Robinson completed the scoring to register his first goal for South Shore, with another header!
The match overall was somewhat disjointed, too many niggly refereeing decisions, too many controversial flag waving moments, and unfortunately as the game wore on and Lytham tired too many rash challenges, prevented the game from being allowed to flow. Nevertheless this was a fine victory for Shore, there were good performances throughout the team, the defence and goal keeper can be proud of yet another clean sheet, and the supply of crosses throughout the afternoon was superb.
